At Pipelining Northwest, we are professionals at open trench excavation. We focus on safe sewer repairs and replacements. Open cut trench excavation is a traditional and well-known method for sewer lateral sewer construction, repair, or replacement. It consists of excavating a trench for the manual installation of each piece of pipe. This method is usually the least expensive method if the pipe is located under non‐pavement areas such as a front or back yard.
As always, there are advantages and disadvantages to every method of repair, and with Pipelining Northwest you can trust that we will guide you through the process of line repair and replacement and help you to find the most cost-effective option.
Open Trench Excavation has several advantages over other methods, such as being applicable for collapsed pipe, severely broken pipe, and pipes with heavy root blockages, as the replacement of pipes means that it does not require roots or debris to be removed from the pipe. Some disadvantages to Open Trench Excavation is the need of more ground displacement compared to trenchless methods and the possibility of street/driveway/sidewalk pavement removal and replacement, which increases the overall expense of the repair.
Our process of open trench excavation involves three main steps:
- Excavating & exposing existing pipes
- Repairing or replacing
- Backfilling the trench
